Five Family-Friendly Weekend Activities Perfect For A Rainy Day

Feb 21, 2018 03:52PM ● Published by Ashley Madonna

The weather has been gloomy all week long, and it doesn’t look like the weekend will bring in any sunshine. If you want to not only get out of the house but also stay out of the cold, check out one of these five family-friendly activities. They are sure to brighten up any rainy day.

Dr. Seuss Day

Celebrate the mastermind behind some of your favorite classics like The Cat in The Hat and Hop on Pop at Dr. Seuss Day. The Southlake Activity Center will be hosting a fun morning full of themed games, crafts and snacks. Bring out your Thing 1 and Thing 2 on Friday at 9:30 a.m. to meet the characters in real life during story time. This event is perfect for children ages three to five, so it's a great way to treat your little ones to a fun outing.

Shrek Jr. The Musical

Come see your kids’ favorite green ogre in person at Shrek the Musical Jr. All of your favorite characters are back on the big stage at Theatre Arlington. Follow Shrek as he goes on a mission to rescue Princess Fiona and meets misfit fairytale characters along the way. Lots of fun tunes and belly laughs await. If you don’t have a chance to catch a show this Friday night, the cast will be holding performances weekly on Sunday, Friday and Saturday until March 11.

Eat Your Art Out

Do your kids love playing with their food? Bring them out to Eat Your Art Out at the Arlington Museum of Art on Saturday to see a few culinary masterpieces. Expect to see some of the area’s most creative bakeries show off their stuff with these zany pastry and dessert sculptures. The night is sure to be full of fun – and cake! Activities kick off at 7:00 p.m. and will lead into a whole evening of entertainment.

Chocolate Muffins & Milkshakes Workshop

If your kids would rather make the treats for themselves, bring them out to Taste Buds Kitchen’s Chocolate Muffins & Milkshakes workshop. You may not think chocolate and zucchini go hand in hand, but after making and tasting their mouth-melting Chocolate Zucchini Muffins, you’ll be singing a different tune. Paired with a handmade chocolate milkshake, you’re kids will leave with an ultra-satisfied sweet tooth. Reserve spots for you and your child today.

AKS Gem Show

Are your kids crazy about jewelry? Treat them to an artistic day on the town by checking out Grapevine’s AKS Gem Show. From Friday to Sunday, different vendors will be out displaying their pieces. There will be everything from fine to fashion jewelry along with lines and lines of beads. This is the perfect way to get your fashionista excited about the trade and pick up a few new pieces for your collection.
