Do you know any local teens who puts others before themselves? Help them become Youth of the Year!

The City of Southlake will sponsor the Youth of the Year Award at the Southlake Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet.

The chamber has given out this award since 1998 to young adults who demonstrate leadership skills, have proven to be a positive influence on their peers and are actively involved with their community and/or school, according to Assistant to the Director of Community Serivces, Cassie Tucker.

Now is your chance to nominate a qualified teen who deserves a bit of recognition for their work in the community. Candidates should be in 7th – 12th grade and have a minimum of a 3.5 grade point average. Nomination forms can be found here

Last year’s honoree, Carlee Miller, completed more than 1,600 volunteer service hours throughout her high school career. She spent her time giving back to nonprofits like Best Buddies and Miracle League while also teaching dance at two studios and acting as a mentor at the Emerald Belles Summer Youth Camps. She also interned for the Carroll Education Foundation for two summers and participated in the PALS program. And she did all this while graduating summa cum laude and being a National Merit Commended Scholar.

Don’t miss your chance to nominate a local teen you know is worthy of this award. Nominations are due by Friday, May 11 at 5 p.m. The award will be presented at the Chamber’s Annual Award Banquet on June 21.
