Hear The Lion Sing!

Jun 01, 2018 08:53AM ● Published by Ashley Madonna

It isn’t billed “The World’s #1 Musical” for nothing. Disney’s "The Lion King" pulls you from your seat, straight into the heart of the Serengeti. Giraffes, cheetahs, gazelles, birds and, obviously, lions fill the stage, dancing, leaping, soaring and singing to the delight of audiences young and old. The performers’ elaborate costumes and detailed makeup add to the effect — and leave you wondering if you are watching a musical or seeing a beautiful painting come to life. For those who somehow haven’t heard the story, "The Lion King" (based on the 1994 animated film of the same name) starts with King Mufasa and Queen Sarabi presenting their new lion cub, Simba, to be king, leaving Mufasa’s brother, Scar, bitter about losing his spot on the throne. The story follows Simba as he grows up and faces trials before he can become king, with bravery, deception, death and love along the way. Of course, the music by Elton John is what brings the show together. Audiences can sing along to “Circle of Life,” “I Just Can’t Wait to be King,” “Hakuna Matata,” “Can You Feel the Love Tonight?” and more.

The worldwide love of "The Lion King" is shown through the numbers: the show has reached more than 90 million audience members around the world, received 70 major theatre awards internationally, won six Tony Awards (including best musical), has had 25 global productions around the world and is the third longest-running Broadway show! But don’t take our word for it — the only way to truly appreciate "The Lion King" is by seeing it yourself.
