Jun 07, 2018 09:08AM ● By Ashley Madonna

Are your kids already done with their first summer reading book or have already binged their favorite summer show on Netflix? This weekend, get them out of the box by stopping by one of these family-friendly events.

Texas Rangers Post Game Fireworks

Take your kids out to the ballgame this weekend when the Texas Rangers take on the Houston Astros. Whether you are an avid baseball fan or just want to head out for the weird ballpark food creations, now is the perfect time to take in America’s pastime. The two Texas teams are sure to bring out big crowds, so buy your tickets early. And stay around on Friday after the final inning to watch the post-game fireworks that light up the Arlington sky.

Dirk Nowitzki 2018 Heroes Celebrity Baseball Game

If you can’t get enough baseball or just want to see a few athletes try out another sport, head over to Dr Pepper Ballpark to catch Dirk Nowitzki’s 2018 Heroes Celebrity Baseball Game. The Dallas Mavs favorite will bring some of his most known friends together on Friday to play a fun game while benefiting the Dirk Nowitski Foundation and the Heroes Foundation. Other than the game itself – that’s sure to be fun to watch – there will be plenty of family-friendly activities to keep your kiddos happy.

Addison Summer Series

For some fun outdoor live entertainment in a beautiful environment, head up to Addison to experience their summer concert series. Addison Summer Series features a different headliner every Friday night at 7 p.m. in June, July and August. This Friday, Hot Soup will take the stage. Everyone will enjoy bopping along to their cool tunes, even if (when) the weather starts to heat up.

Big D BBQ Battle

While you are in town, feed the whole family at the Big D BBQ Battle in Addison Circle Park. The tasty festival runs June 8 and 9 and is set to include a wide range of delicious, smoky flavors. The best of the best barbecues in the area will compete for the weekend’s top prize in categories like best brisket, ribs and beans. Attendees should come ready to try some delicious creations from these foodie masters.

World Oceans Day Celebration Weekend

If your kids love everything under the sea, then they are sure to love the Children’s Aquarium at Fair Park’s World Oceans Day Celebration Weekend. From Friday to Sunday, the aquarium will host plenty of family-friendly educational activities alongside their eye-catching exhibits. Don’t forget to take advantage of all of the events they will host on the aquarium’s front lawn. The fun will have you singing “just keep swimming” all day long.
