A Haunting Love Story

Jul 02, 2018 11:02AM

The Phantom is back — bringing drama, obsession, romance, music and, of course, the white mask with him! Grammy and Tony Award winner Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Love Never Dies” is coming to Music Hall at Fair Park this month, telling the fast-paced “Phantom of the Opera” sequel set 10 years after The Phantom disappeared from the Paris Opera House. As a refresher for those who haven’t heard the story in a while, “The Phantom of the Opera” is about a deformed man who lives in the sewers underneath the Paris Opera House, who tutors and falls in love with chorus singer Christine and terrorizes and kills other members of the opera house. Based on a French novel by Gaston Leroux, “The Phantom of the Opera” became one of the most successful musicals of all time, has been seen by more than 130 million people, and has won more than 50 international awards including the Tony Award for Best Musical. If you can’t get enough of this dark love story, then you will love Webber’s sequel, “Love Never Dies,” which is already gaining critical acclaim internationally.

Follow along as The Phantom lures his musical protégée and love, Christine, along with her husband, Raoul, and son, Gustave, to the magical New York, where The Phantom now lives among the carnival rides and sideshows on Coney Island. Although Christine is married and one of the finest sopranos in the world, she still isn’t living her happily ever after as she is in a poor, unhappy marriage with drinker and gambler Raoul. So, the family travels to America so Christine can perform at a New York opera house — and The Phantom can try to win back the love of the only woman who ever showed him compassion. Since it’s 2010 premiere, “Love Never Dies” has been adapted in theatres around the world and is now captivating audiences in the U.S. for the first time. Get your tickets now for this romantic ride of obsession, romance and fantastic music.
