A leg lamp, a pink Easter bunny costume, a frozen tongue and the official Red Ryder
Carbine-Action 200-Shot Range Model Air Rifle are part of why watching “A Christmas Story” has been a favorite holiday tradition since 1983. Now, you can see the tale of Ralphie Parker and his family live at the Winspear Opera House this month. Audiences will be taken back to a simpler time — 1940s Indiana — when a boy's biggest dream is to get a BB gun for Christmas. Laugh along as he dodges his over-protective mother (who warns him, “You'll shoot your eye out!”), a crazy Santa Claus in a department store, his strict father and school bullies, all while maintaining a hilarious commentary throughout.
This live show wouldn't be possible without the talented people who brought it to life. Joseph Robinette, an award-winning author of more than 50 published plays and musicals, adapted the film for the stage, and songwriting duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (the guys behind Tony Award-winning “Dear Evan Hansen” and Academy Award-winning “La La Land”) transformed the holiday classic into a phenomenal musical! “A Christmas Story, The Musical” first ran on Broadway in 2012, where it received three 2013 Tony nominations including Best Musical and Best Original Score. Now it is touring the country, bringing its holiday cheer everywhere it goes. Whether you are a die-hard fan or have never heard of a triple-dog-dare before, people of all ages will have a blast watching this musical.
