Southlake’s 5 Biggest Restaurant Closings of 2018

Dec 14, 2018 10:20AM ● By Ashley Madonna
This year has brought us plenty of exciting restaurant ventures and new businesses, but it also acted as the last year for a few of our favorites. While this list doesn’t encapsulate all the eateries that have closed in 2018, these are five restaurants that we personally will miss.
Café Express
The casual café closed its doors in Southlake Town Square after almost 15 years of business. The restaurant joined the downtown district in 2003 and offered everything from brunch to pasta. Café Express has one more location in the Metroplex, located on Lovers in Dallas, for those who miss their turkey burgers and upscale salads.
Johnny B’s Burgers and Shakes
After 14 years of flipping and serving high-quality, classic burgers, Johnny B’s Burgers and Shakes closed its doors in January. Founded by John Finlayson and his wife Sandy, the restaurant became known for serving up fresh burgers and providing a sense of community for their regular diners.
Snuffer’s Restaurant & Bar
Snuffer’s Restaurant & Bar is the most recently closed restaurant in Southlake Town Square. The burger joint originally came to Southlake in November 2006 and shut their doors for the last time on December 9. The restaurant group made mention they closed this restaurant so they could focus on their “higher-performing locations.”
SPIN! Neapolitan Pizza
SPIN! spun right out of Southlake. The pizza franchise closed its Southlake Town Square location on November 16. The Kansas City concept first came to town in 2015 and was the franchises’ third Texan location. If they are up for a drive, avid fans can still enjoy their slices at their Richardson location.
Sushi Zushi
The Southlake Town Square sushi locale of choice, Sushi Zushi, closed their doors in May. They went from rolling around town delivering sushi to locals to rolling back to focus on their Dallas location. So Sushi Zushi fans now have to head over to Uptown to enjoy their creations.

Other closings include Mellow Mushroom, Protein Fit Kitchen, Mangia's Pizza, Kobeya, Pie 5 Pizza and East Hampton Sandwich Co, proving 2018 was hard on restaurants. Did we miss one of your favorites? Tell us what closing hit you the hardest in 2018 in the comments.
