When Southlake was formed in September 1956, the population was just over 100. The area was home to small farms, ranches and homesteads. What is now bustling highways, was once two lane roads connecting other communities and running through empty fields. The name Southlake was chosen from possible names submitted by residents and was reflective of the new Grapevine Lake which had been built to the north just four years earlier. While limited growth followed for a couple of decades after formation of our community, the 1980’s and 1990’s saw dramatic change in population as well as residential and commercial development.
Today, Southlake has evolved from a purely rural community into the leading suburb in north Texas as recognized by D Magazine. Despite the upsurge of development, Southlake has maintained it’s core family values and community involvement. We continue to treasure open space and big lots, we have great family oriented residents who are involved and giving, and we have great schools.
Southlake is centrally located between the proud cities of Dallas and Ft. Worth, Texas. Southlake’s proximity to these two culturally contrasting cities affords its residents a wide range of enlightening experiences. When you are in Southlake you’re never far from a day of bronco busting at the famous Ft. Worth Stockyards or an evening on the town in one of Dallas’s trendy hot-spots.
Key indicators of quality of life including data on schools, crime, housing and air quality in addition to overall ambience place Southlake atop the suburbs of the DFW area. We at Southlake Style believe Southlake provides a tremendous blend of old town community values with an updated, contemporary twist.
