After 26 years as a highly visible fixture in Southlake Town Square, Corner Bakery Café has permanently closed its doors. Along with Crate & Barrel, who recently announced its comeback, the café along Southlake Boulevard was amongst the original tenants when the Square officially debuted in 1999. Thanks to its prime location and tasty breakfast options, Corner Bakery quickly established itself as one of the community’s favorite gathering spots—long before the area became the bustling destination it is today.
In the early 2000s, the cozy café drew early risers and neighbors alike, serving as a go-to spot for morning coffee, casual breakfast meetings, and countless community connections.
This local closure is part of a national trend as Corner Bakery’s parent company, CBC Restaurant Corp., has undergone several ownership and financial changes in recent years. After filing for bankruptcy protection in 2023, the Chicago-based chain shifted hands and closed a number of underperforming locations nationwide as part of a corporate restructuring under Dallas-based SSCP, the owner of Cici’s pizza and many Applebee’s and Sonic franchises.
Though national business decisions led to the closure, Corner Bakery’s departure is deeply felt in Southlake. For many longtime residents, it wasn’t just a café—it was an everyday part of life in the heart of Southlake.
The company’s website still lists 26 locations in Texas with several still open across the DFW area including Irving, Dallas and Fort Worth.
