More bad news for fans of local malls: another longtime tenant of Grapevine Mills Mall will be closing.
Retail giant Forever 21 will be shuttering its doors, according to a news release sent out earlier this month. The company announced Chapter 11 bankruptcy and will be closing eight Dallas-Fort Worth locations in all, including in Hurst, Arlington, Allen, Mesquite and Fort Worth.
An official closing date for the Grapevine Mills location has not been announced.
Brad Sell, Forever 21 chief financial officer, said the closings are due to the company being "unable to find a sustainable path forward."
"As we move through the process, we will work diligently to minimize the impact on our employees, customers, vendors and other stakeholders," Sell said in the release.
The retail store has been a mainstay at Grapevine Mills Mall for more than 15 years, taking over the location originally occupied by Virgin Megastore. Besides being a popular and affordable place to buy clothes, Forever 21 also served as one of Grapevine Mills' "cut-through" stores, allowing shoppers to save time while going from one side of the massive shopping mall to the other.
Customers will still be able to purchase items in-store and off the Forever 21 website during the company's "winding down operations", per the news release. Sale signs, including up to 60 percent off certain items, are now up in the store.
