Grapevine’s roller rink scene is rolling back into action, and it’s bringing a cosmic twist.
The old SkateTown building at 2330 William D. Tate Ave., once the heartbeat of family fun for 24 years, is officially getting a fresh start as Galaxy Skate, a modern family entertainment center set to open Saturday, October 18. Think disco lights, music pumping and families gliding together just like the good old days—but with a brand-new twist for today.
SkateTown, a family-owned and -operated rink run by Mike and Kathy Vouklizas, closed on August 21, 2021, when the couple announced their retirement on Facebook. Shortly after, the 32,989-square-foot property on 3.21 acres was sold to a Carrollton-based real estate investment group. The new owners had initially considered turning the space into offices, either as a single tenant or multiple smaller suites, but plans never materialized. Instead, the keys were handed over to Ashley Reed, a lifelong roller-skating enthusiast with a vision to revive the building’s original magic.
Galaxy Skate is set to honor the nostalgia of SkateTown while delivering a modern, inclusive, family-friendly experience. The revamped rink will feature classic roller skating alongside an updated arcade, VR rooms, karaoke rooms and a soft play area, ensuring there’s something for everyone. Whether you’re spinning on the rink or belting out a karaoke favorite, Galaxy Skate offers out-of-this-world fun.
For families and longtime area residents, this revival is a celebration of memories past — and new ones waiting to be made. Lace up your skates, grab your friends and glide into the next chapter of this iconic roller rink legacy. Tickets are available online now!
