On Monday, June 14, Mayor John Huffman announced via Facebook that a new entertainment endeavor is considering moving into Southlake Town Square, and it aspires to occupy the former Harkins Theatres location.
In his most recent “Minute With The Mayor” video, which was filmed in front of Harkins, Mayor Huffman presented the upcoming process for consideration.
“As you guys know, Harkins left town in November of 2020. They were a casualty of COVID-19,” Mayor Huffman says. “We were sad to see them go, and we’ve been hoping for a new user to take their place.”
Mayor Huffman goes on to say the business coming in front of Southlake’s planning and zoning committee aspires to use the space as an entertainment center that will house “dine-in theaters, an arcade as well as some bowling options.”
Southlake P&Z and Southlake City Council will host a joint meeting and public hearing at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 29 to consider a revised site plan for “exterior facade modifications.” The same night will also feature a meeting with the city sign board to “consider whether to allow new signage on the proposed building.”
This joint endeavor is a departure from regular procedure, but Mayor Huffman says the city council has previously done these shared sessions on projects with quick turnaround times.
“This is the last and biggest piece of Town Square that was severely and negatively impacted in the COVID-19 shutdown, and as your mayor, I feel like it is critically important as we keep Southlake Town Square strong that we do everything we can to encourage economic development in this corner of town.”
All the June 29 meetings are public and will be hosted at the city council chambers. For more information, visit the City of Southlake’s Facebook page.
