Orvis, the national outdoor retailer known for fly-fishing gear, sporting apparel and adventure accessories, will close its Southlake location at the end of the year as part of a major downsizing of its brick-and-mortar footprint.
The company announced it will shut down 31 retail stores nationwide and five outlet locations in early 2026, reducing its store count by nearly half. The Southlake store, located in Park Village, will close its doors on Dec. 24, according to public notices. The Plano location on Preston Road will also close on the same date.
Orvis currently operates 64 stores and seven outlets across at least 28 states. The downsizing marks one of the most significant retail contractions in the company’s long history. Founded in 1856 as one of the nation’s earliest fly-fishing outfitters, Orvis has since expanded into sportswear, travel gear, home décor and luggage.
Company leadership described the shift as a return to the brand’s roots, with a renewed focus on fly fishing and wingshooting. The move also comes amid a changing retail landscape and increased business pressures, including tariff-related costs that have affected global supply chains in recent years.
Despite closing many storefronts, Orvis products will remain widely available through more than 550 independent dealers and several national retail partners. The company plans to lean more heavily on those partnerships while consolidating its own physical store portfolio, according to a company statement.
The Southlake location opened in April 2015 and quickly became a go-to destination for local anglers, travelers and outdoor enthusiasts. Shoppers can expect significant discounts leading up to the closure.
A full list of the 36 stores slated to close has not yet been released, but the Southlake closure is confirmed.
