Resistance Exercise As Medicine
Don’t Waste Time On A Workout That Doesn’t Work.

I work out really, really hard for 30 minutes twice a week, and I’m seeing the same results than when I was going to the gym 4 or 5 times a week.” — Kailyn
Discover Strength is far from your average gym. While many gym-goers today follow the conventional wisdom that when it comes to resistance training, the more workout days, the better, Discover Strength is turning that concept on its head. Their innovative method, based on peer-reviewed research, is proving that quality wins over quantity.
“At Discover Strength, we know that busy people don't have time to waste on a workout that doesn't work,” explains the Southlake location’s general manager, Tucker Bounds. “Discover Strength delivers 30-minute strength workouts twice per week with an expert trainer, and we will help you look and feel your best in a fraction of the time.”
Following this pioneering method, members complete two 30-minute workouts per week, performing 10-12 exercises per session while covering every major muscle group. The key to this results-driven method is that while only one set is performed per exercise, reps are performed to the point of failure, or past it, while under strict control, all with one-on-one guidance or in small groups under coach supervision.
“Every rep is performed slowly,” Discover Strength’s founder, former assistant strength and conditioning coach with the Minnesota Vikings, Luke Carlson explains. “That’s the key: you’ve got to eliminate momentum. Lift slowly, lower it slowly, and then you’ve got to go to momentary muscle failure, or beyond momentary muscle failure.”
Their certified trainers utilize a tailored, specific approach that gives a total-body workout unlike any other. Their method, based on numerous peer-reviewed scientific studies, like in “The Journal of Nutrition, Health, and Aging,” shows that more strength training volume does not produce better results. In fact, in terms of muscle strength, less volume produced better results when compared to increased set volumes. It also demonstrated that resistance exercise can be the key to healthy aging.
The proof is in the results that have their clients raving. “I train at Discover Strength because it’s truly the most efficient workout I’ve ever done,” says Kris R. “I used to lift weights and strength train at the gym several times a week. When I was told I could get a 30-minute workout twice a week that was full-body, I was hooked.”
