Sam's Club CEO Chris Nicholas has ordered a store-wide remodel for his 600 Club's located across America. The blueprint for the redesign? The Grapevine location, which Nicholas called "innovative" in a company press release.
At Sam's Club in Grapevine, customers skip the checkout lines; there aren't even any registers to choose from. Instead, customers scan their products with a mobile app as they place them in their carts. They can then "check out" and pay using the app.
When exiting the store, customers pass through a scanner that checks the shopping carts for unscanned items.
This model has worked so well in Grapevine, Nicholas said, that it makes sense to push it to every store in the country.
"This is one of the fastest, most scalable transformations happening in retail today," he said in the company release. "We’re investing with intention—in our fleet, our associates and the member experience—to become the world’s best club retailer."
Over the next eight to ten years, Sam's Club officials hope to double membership. The company hopes to build 15 new clubs per year for the foreseeable future.
