If you were planning to swing by Nike's Southlake location for a new pair of Air Maxes or running shoes, you may want to change your route.
The Nike store at Town Square has abruptly closed its doors, ending the athletic giant's relatively short run in Southlake. The store opened in 2022 at 181 Grand Ave., bringing the iconic Swoosh to one of the area's busiest shopping destinations.
While the Southlake closure may feel like a surprise, it's actually part of a much larger Nike story playing out across the country. In July alone, Nike closed or announced closures at numerous stores as the company works to restructure its business and rethink its physical retail footprint. Locations in Tampa, Louisville, Lexington, Kansas City, The Woodlands, Atlanta, Alpharetta, San Jose, Hoboken, Bethesda, Cary and Naperville were among those affected.
For Southlake shoppers, Nike isn't exactly disappearing from the area. The company continues to operate nearby locations, including its factory outlet at Grapevine Mills and other North Texas stores. Still, there's something a little jarring about seeing the Swoosh vanish from Town Square — especially when the store seemed to disappear almost as quickly as it arrived.
