The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission has expanded its permits to allow for mixed drink sales for Texas restaurants and bars.
In March, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott issued a waiver allowing restaurants to sell alcohol with takeout food purchases. According to the TABC, restaurants could sell either unopened beer and wine or cocktail kits with unopened .375 milliliter bottles that can be mixed at home. Establishments would violate the waiver if they sold alcoholic beverages already mixed on the premises.
Now, the TABC has amended its rules to allow restaurants and bars to apply for a mixed beverage permit and sell cocktails and mixed drinks to customers. According to the amendment, customers can purchase mixed drinks to go only if properly sealed and accompanied by a food order prepared by the business. Delivering an open container of alcohol is still prohibited under TABC regulations.
