After 78 years of helping North Texans turn houses into homes, Weir’s Furniture is preparing to close its doors — including its Southlake location — once inventory is sold.
In other words, if you’ve ever thought, “We should finally replace that couch,” this is your moment.
Founded in 1948 by J. Ray Weir and Bea Weir, Weir’s grew from a single Dallas storefront into a four-location mainstay. Along the way, it became known for fair prices, friendly service, and the kind of customer relationships that outlast most living room sets.
The company began its closing sale March 26, with doors shutting for good once everything is gone. Chairman Al Boulden said in a press release that the decision followed "careful evaluation of financial realities" and a tough retail environment, adding that the goal is to “finish well” and take care of employees.
Of course, Weir’s was never just about furniture. The beloved Country Store — opened in 1963 — was practically a rite of passage, where kids (and let’s be honest, adults) grabbed old-school candy and 25-cent popcorn while someone debated upholstery options nearby. The company also earned respect for its community involvement and a rare commitment to always paying vendors on time — even during COVID.
Leadership remained in the family for decades, from J. Ray to his son Dan, and later to CEO Mark Moore, who retired in 2024 as the last family member to run the business.
