Carroll ISD senior Zania Karim has long been a passionate voice for youth mental health — and now, her advocacy is taking center stage at a community-wide event.
Zania first caught attention for her Girl Scout Gold Award project, which equipped students with stress relief tools and curated music playlists designed to support well-being. Her work has only grown in impact. This spring, the City of Southlake recognized her efforts with a Mental Health Awareness Month Proclamation, and in August she presented her plans for a youth wellness summit to both the City Council and Carroll ISD School Board, earning strong support from community leaders.
That vision will come to life on Saturday, September 6, 2025, with the inaugural Southlake Youth Wellness Summit. Hosted at Evans Hall at White’s Chapel Methodist Church, the event will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and offer concurrent sessions for parents and students ages 10–14. Licensed psychologists, counselors, and educators will lead workshops on topics such as building confidence, navigating friendships, practicing digital wellness, and strengthening family communication.
Zania designed the Summit after months of thoughtful planning, beginning with one-on-one conversations with counselors from every Carroll ISD intermediate and middle school. By listening to their insights on the most pressing needs, she shaped an agenda tailored to support both students and families.
The event is free to attend and will also feature community booths, raffle giveaways, and a complimentary lunch for all participants.
For Zania, the Summit is more than an event — it’s a way to give back to her community. “I wanted to create a space where students and parents could feel supported and empowered,” she said.
