If you think you'rebrseeing double at Dawson Middle School (DMS), your eyes aren't fooling you; thebrschool has an astonishing 26 sets of twins. Last week, seventh-grade sciencebrteacher Sheryl Sides celebrated these twins through the 13th annualbrDawson Double Day.
At the event, the 26 setsbrof twins joined their seventh-grade peers for an Oprah-style show complete withbrdiscussion, twin trivia and a fun Q&A session.
“I love watching our studentsbrobserve the twins' behavior, as they finish each other's sentences, elaboratebron what they love and hate about being twins, and expound on their mutualbrexperiences as twins,” says Sides. “I'm fascinated with their fascination!”
There are 19 sets ofbrtwins in seventh grade and seven sets in eighth grade. DMS hopes to break thebrGuinness world record for “the middle school with the most sets of twins in onebracademic year.” The last record was established in 2013, with the school onbrrecord having 25 sets of twins.
Sides started DawsonbrDouble Day as a fun lesson on twins. It's a topic she teaches in her sciencebrclass, and it's something she knows well personally, too. “My sisters arebridentical mirror twins,” she says. “I grew up spending a lot of time with mybraunt and uncle, who are also twins.”
