At Southlake Public Library, checking out a book is not the only option.
Through a recent donation from the American Heart Association, supported by Texas Health Southlake, library patrons now have access to tools that could do far more than inform — they could help save lives.
The donation includes five blood pressure kits, each equipped with a validated cuff and educational resources designed to help individuals monitor and manage hypertension from home. Available for checkout, the kits offer a simple but powerful way to make heart health more accessible within the community.
“These blood pressure kits are another meaningful way the Southlake Library can care for the community by offering convenient access to essential health tools,” said Meagan Hemenway, Executive Director of the American Heart Association Tarrant County. “The ability to borrow a cuff with the same convenience as a book in an area so many frequent, makes it easier to prioritize better health. As a Southlake resident, I am proud to be part of an organization that understands how easy access to tools like this, in seasons of life that just keep getting busier, can have a significant impact in our ability to care for ourselves.”
The initiative reflects a broader shift toward meeting people where they already are, integrating wellness into everyday routines rather than requiring additional appointments or resources.
And the impact doesn’t stop there.
The library will also be receiving five CPR training kits. Soon available for checkout, the kits are designed to teach Hands-Only CPR, giving residents the opportunity to learn lifesaving skills at their own pace. More information about the CPR kits and their availability is expected in the coming months.
