Season Update
Coach Joesph Hathaway’s Dragon Wrestling team has had a verybrgood year. With one individual tournament left before its District meet and UILbrpostseason play, the Dragons have posted an impressive 11-1 record.
Currently ranked third in the state, behind Allen andbrArlington Martin, according to WrestlingTexas.com, the Dragons have putbrtogether a slew of great team efforts. One of Hathaway’s best teams in recentbrmemory, this year’s squad took its regular season prowess to new heights. Withbra well-rounded roster at all-weight classes, Hathaway’s club capped off anbrimpressive undefeated district season after winning the District Dual Team Championshipbrat Keller’s Timber Creek High. And as the stage got bigger, so too, did thebrteam’s performance. Carroll recently achieved its best performance in programbrhistory, coming in third place at the 6A State Dual Championships in Houston.
In addition to the many successes at the dual level, thebrDragons have also flourished in individual competitions. On the year, 42brcompetitors placed in meets including 20 finalists and nine champions. In doingbrso, the Dragons look poised to continue their successes at the statebrchampionships held February 19-20 at Cypress-Fairbanks ISD’s Berry Center inbrHouston.
About the Team
Boasting 16 All-State wrestlers since 2010, the Dragonbrwrestling program has produced a flurry of talent throughout Hathaway’s tenure.brWith names such as Robert Prigmore, Steven McPeek and 2014 champion MichaelbrBasler all doing their part to help build the reputation of the Dragon program,brHathaway has seen record numbers join the roster. With plenty of young talent onbrthis season’s roster, the Dragon faithful’s present and future look extremelybrbright. Currently, six Dragon wrestlers in six different weight classes arebrranked in the TexasWrestling.com state rankings.
Senior Jack Duval is currently ranked fourth in the 160 lbs.brclass and has had a great season with a couple of first place finishes to hisbrname. Sophomores Cameron Haddock and Andrei Steinjann have also had greatbrcampaigns as they rank 7th and 10th in the state in thebr126 lbs. and 138 lbs. classes, respectively. Juniors Adam and Aron Lindbergbrrank 8th and 10th in the state at the 170 lbs. and 152 lbs.brweight classes, while senior Heavyweight Lucas Tribble ranks 8th inbrthe state at 285 lbs.
