Ranking on list after list of top schools and outstanding districts, Carroll ISD is no stranger to accolades. And they shouldn't be. Just recently, Carroll Senior High School was placed on Newsweek's list of Top High Schools in the nation coming in at No. 80.
On the most recent list we came across, the district received an A+ on the Niche.com report card—ranking second in Texas. (Eanes ISD in Austin ranked first.) The “grade” is compiled from a variety of sources that include student, parent and resident surveys, school administrators, and government databases.
“There truly are many different ways you can evaluate a school district, but we are thrilled to see how well our district did on Niche.com,” says CISD Superintendent Dr. David Faltys. “It's especially great to hear that our community is pleased with the school district and the education we are providing their children.”
The site also noted that 99 percent of students in CISD are considered proficient in math and/or reading. Compare this to the state average of 83.3 percent for math and 88.4 percent for reading.
“Our teachers do a great job of identifying student needs and helping individual students reach their full potential,” Dr. Faltys says. “Every child comes to us with a different set of needs and different learning styles, and it's very satisfying to see our students put what they have learned into practice by excelling on state and national assessments.”
There is such camaraderie among students, staff and parents in CISD, and Dr. Faltys agrees Carroll is a great school district to raise a family.
“I think it has something to do with our community as a whole; our kids are all Dragons and that helps our students feel a sense of pride and unity as they grow up,” Dr. Faltys says. “It's just something you don't see everywhere. In addition to that, our parents are educated, active supporters of Carroll ISD at all levels. Our goal as a staff is to continue to set high standards and to protect the tradition of excellence that citizens of Carroll ISD have come to expect.”
