Candidate Name: Randy Robbins
Occupation: Anesthesiologist, Managing Partner of Valiant Anesthesia Associates, PLLC
How long have you lived in Southlake? What brought you to town?
We have lived in Southlake for over 17 years. We moved here in June 2003 after I completed my anesthesia training and joined a local practice.
What inspired you to run for this position?
It’s really been a long process of being drawn to serve in public office over the last several years. When the COVID pandemic hit last spring and we saw the challenges leaders faced across the country at every level, the calling became too strong to deny, and I started exploring exactly what it would look like for me to step up and serve. Starting with the very neighbors in my city seemed like a logical place to begin my service.
What in your background has prepared you for this position?
I have started businesses in extremely competitive environments and helped make them successful. My medical experience helps me bring a unique perspective to the council, especially in the midst of and following COVID. I also served on the inaugural Community Engagement Committee, the GRACE Board of Directors and served as co-chair for their capital campaign to build their new facility on Worth Street.
What do you hope to bring to this role?
I hope to bring a fresh perspective that helps the council continue to make Southlake excellent. My unique medical connections open the door for discussions of striving to make Southlake a medical destination, in turn keeping our citizens healthier and offering them a level of care never before provided in our great city.
What do you hope to accomplish in this position?
I hope to serve the citizens of Southlake with integrity and fight to preserve the character of Southlake that makes it so special for all of us. I will advocate for continuing to decrease our property taxes and work to get our citizens fair appraisals values and taxation. I also will work to maintain our low-density environment and will work with the county and TxDOT to continuously pursue traffic solutions for our city that help increase efficiencies and support our businesses and citizens.
Why do you believe you will be successful in this position?
My experience in business and medicine will allow me to bring a fresh perspective to the council and provide a needed level of expertise as we continue to deal with the effects of the COVID pandemic on our citizens and businesses. I have proven to be a leader that listens to others, will seek the wisdom of those concerned and find logical solutions.
What are your top priorities if elected?
Maintain Southlake excellence and continue fighting for decreased tax rates, low-density residential and quality retail development and pushing to make Southlake a medical destination.
What actions do you believe are necessary to help unify the community?
We must lead by example, and I will continue doing what I've always done. I make myself available to meet and listen to the concerns of all citizens and find viable solutions to their concerns. We must continue to find the common ground where all citizens feel valued and respected.
Is there anything else you would like our readers to know?
I have a passion for Southlake and for leadership. I want to continue the vision that those who have come before me laid out for our great city and pursue the excellence that separates Southlake from every other city in Texas.
