The world will never forget what happened on September 11, 2001. Neither will Southlake.
On September 6, a memorial banner was erected in Southlake Town Square to honor the 2,977 lives lost at the World Trade Center 20 years ago. Southlake City Council members signed it with their own heartfelt messages, as well as members of the community remembering their loved ones. The Southlake Town Hall will also be lit up in red, white and blue throughout this weekend, and memorial flags will also be flown throughout Southlake as well.
“Two decades ago on September 11, 2001, the American people endured the worst terrorist attack on U.S. soil in the nation’s history,” Mayor John Huffman says during the city council’s regular meeting. “We want to commemorate all of the lives lost and the sacrifices made after that day.”
A flag ceremony will be held at town hall promptly at 7:46 a.m. on Saturday to commemorate the victims of September 11. There will be a laying of the wreath, an honor guard presentation and a moment of silence for all of the lives lost 20 years ago.
