Tomorrow on January 15, the town is turning green to show support for the Carroll Dragons as they take on Austin Westlake in the state championship on Saturday at AT&T Stadium.
The goal is to turn the town green — in whatever form that might take. Whether it’s changing your outdoor light bulbs to shine green, attached green streamers to your car or mailbox or even donning your home in green Christmas lights.
“The Carroll Athletic Booster Club worked with Mayor Hill to develop it,” Bill Webb, the president of the CABC says. “She wanted to know what she could do to support the Dragons, we suggested this idea and she took it and ran with it.”
The fountains in Southlake Town Square and City Hall will be turning green while green streamers will be tied to as many trees as possible.
“This is such a special experience,” Bill says. “Our athletes and coaches make it look easy. But it’s not.”
The green out is currently only planned to go through Friday night but should the Dragons win the state championship, the green out will continue through Saturday night.
“It really is an amazing story,” Bill says. “Riley will say it’s all about the kids but there is a lot that goes into this kind of success and everyone involved in Dragon football, including players, coaches, trainers, parents and all the spirit groups should be proud. This is the personification of Dragon Nation.”
