Classic Chevrolet has been a proud supporter of The Miracle League of Southlake from the very beginning as a scoreboard sponsor. Additionally, The Thompson Group at Classic Chevrolet has contributed as an outfield wall sponsor. In 2016, due to fundraising efforts of Classic employees, the dealership was able to bestow a check for $20,000 to The Miracle League of Southlake.
“Now in our third season, this donation helps us give 195 special needs players the ability to play baseball without any fees to their parents. You can only imagine what this donation means to us,” John Slocum, board member of The Miracle League of Southlake, says via press release. “We're proud to have Classic Chevrolet and The Thompson Group at Classic Chevrolet as major sponsors.”
The first Miracle League was established in Georgia in 2000. Like wildfire, the joy of Miracle League spread across the United States wherever someone with compassion and vision on behalf of the players said, “play ball.”
Children in North Texas who had never played organized baseball due to disabilities including autism, physical challenges, blindness and Down's syndrome now have the opportunity to play organized baseball. Kids play on a special rubberized field with no obstacles. Everything from the base paths to the bases is painted so nothing gets in the way of the athletes, whether they are running or using a wheelchair or walker.
“As our mission statement says, we cannot change or cure the medical issues life has dealt children with disabilities,” says Slocum. “What we can do is provide them with an opportunity to experience the joy and benefits that come from playing our national pastime — baseball.”
