Candidate Name: John Huffman
Occupation: Business owner, real estate investor, recovering attorney
How long have you lived in Southlake? What originally brought you to town?
"My family and I have lived in Southlake since October of 2008. We moved here because it felt completely different than other suburbs in the DFW area – a beautiful semi-rural upscale oasis in a sea of concrete. It still feels that way today."
What inspired you to run for this position?
"I first ran for council in 2015 because I wanted to preserve what makes Southlake so unique. I continue to serve because I want to ensure that, when my time is through, my children’s generation is left with a Southlake they will be proud of and that retains the charm and the glory that drew us all here in the first place."
What in your background prepared you for this responsibility?
"Prior to serving on council, I served as Chair of our Zoning Board of Adjustments, a role that prepared me for my current job. My background in law and current occupation in residential construction have given me a unique perspective on many of the cases we deal with."
What do you hope to bring to this role?
"I hope I bring a sense of confidence for our citizens that I am considering every case with an open mind and a desire to achieve the best outcome possible for the city of Southlake."
What makes you different from other candidates?
"I believe I have a unique blend of backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives that allow me to contribute substantively to the leadership of the city."
What do you hope to accomplish if you are elected into your desired position?
"I am unopposed so I am already elected. In seriousness, I will continue to work to a) protect our uniqueness so we can continue to attract excellent families to our city; b) protect our business climate and attract high quality businesses and developments; and c) work with our regional, state and federal partners to improve current mobility issues and plan for future infrastructure needs."
