The rollout of the new COVID-19 vaccine has begun at the Hurst Conference Center last week, and Southlake is partially to thank for helping to make that happen.
Earlier this month, Tarrant County Judge Glen Whitley contacted Hurst Mayor Henry Wilson and asked if there were any available sites for additional COVID-19 vaccination centers. Mayor Wilson volunteered the Hurst Conference Center for use, and in six days, the center was retrofitted as a new vaccine supercenter for the county. Multiple cities in Northeast Tarrant County supplied around 100 firemen and volunteers to run the vaccination site, including Southlake.
“We were able to set up the center in record time,” Mayor Wilson says in a Facebook video. “Hurst couldn’t have done it by itself. The county couldn’t have done it. It was really a group effort, and I appreciate that.”
While only frontline health care workers, at-risk individuals and residents 65 and older are eligible for vaccination during the first phase of the rollout, Tarrant County is currently taking pre-registrations for appointments that will be scheduled at a later time.
