If you drive down Southlake Boulevard, there’s a new sight to see. A statue of three bronze donkeys was installed near the entrance of Southlake Commons on October 13.
“When the plans for Southlake Commons were brought forward, the developer Sage Group, Inc. and the city council agreed to place a bronze donkey sculpture near the Southlake Boulevard entrance to commemorate the property’s history,” Community Services Director Chris Tribble says.
The artist behind the donkeys, Jane DeDecker, has also created the art pieces at the roundabout at White Chapel and at Family Park in Town Square, among others. The construction of the statue is finished, with landscaping still to be added.
“The Southlake Burro Trio is a sweet remembrance of the donkeys that once lived there,” Chris says. “It’s extraordinary that their legacy will live on for years to come.”
