Even though fall is still a few weeks away, the long Labor Day weekend is the perfect chance to celebrate the end of summer. We've rounded up some of the best family-friendly events in the area so you can send the summer off in style!
First Responders Night At Dragon Stadium
Kick off your Labor Day weekend with Dragon Nation as they honor Southlake and Grapevine First Responders at the 3rd Annual First Responders Appreciation Event. Hosted by the Dragon Barbecue team, the Emerald Belles and the boys and girls soccer teams, the pregame tailgate starts at 5:30 p.m. in Dragon Alley, where you can meet and eat with first responders and their families. Then, Southlake mayor Shawn McCaskill and principal Ryan Wilson will share a few words of gratitude, followed by a special pregame field recognition where Southlake's own Nikki Roop sings the national anthem. All first responders will also receive free parking and admission to the game.
Dallas Arboretum's Labor Day Family Fun Weekend
With temperatures finally falling below the 100-degree mark, this Labor Day weekend is the perfect time to celebrate outdoors with your nearest and dearest at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden. Find a shady spot in the garden for a picnic and stay for the live music from 12-4 p.m. Kids are sure to love the Country Critters Petting Zoo in the Pecan Grove from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. And on Sept. 1, you won’t want to miss the Window to the Wild experience at the Martin Rutchik Concert Stage and Lawn, which will showcase a variety of different birds.
Cosm is a revolutionary new entertainment company blending immersive technology, larger-than-life LED screens and killer bar food and drinks that will change the way you enjoy live sports, arts and entertainment. Think The Sphere in Las Vegas meets an AT&T Stadium VIP suite. Labor Day weekend sets the scene perfectly with screenings on Aug. 31 of NCAA Clemson @ Georgia at 11 a.m. followed by Notre Dame @ Texas A&M at 6:30 p.m. Other weekend events include a Premiere League matchup between Manchester United vs. Liverpool and U.S. Open tennis.
Grapevine Vintage Railroad's Labor Day Weekend Train
Step back in time with a nostalgic ride on the Grapevine Vintage Railroad with an end-of-summer family-friendly outing. The Grapevine Vintage Railroad gives passengers the opportunity to travel on authentic 1920s-era Victorian train coaches along the historic Cotton Belt Route. Roundtrip routes travel to the Fort Worth Stockyards. The Labor Day excursion departs from the Cotton Belt Depot in Grapevine and takes passengers to the Fort Worth Stockyards. Guests will have time to mosey around the Stockyards to grab some lunch or get in some shopping before hopping back on the return journey to Grapevine.
Grapevine Main LIVE! Fall Concert Series
The Grapevine Main LIVE! Fall Concert Series kicks off on Aug. 30 with the Shania Twain cover band, Still The One. The Fall Concert Series will take place Fridays from August 30 through October 25, at 7:30 p.m. Located on Peace Plaza directly outside of Harvest Hall, guests can enjoy food from eight chef-inspired global kitchens, as well as specialty crafted cocktails and performances by some of the best local artists and bands in the Metroplex.
