Due to the pandemic, Grapevine’s 23rd annual Butterfly Flutterby celebration will look a little bit different this year.
Running from October 1 to 17, the festival will include three virtual butterfly releases that will be livestreamed. Taking place on October 5 and 12 at 11 a.m., people will be able to participate in a virtual event that will include “a live butterfly release and educational highlights from experts,” according to a press release.
The third and final butterfly release will take place on October 17 at 11 a.m., which will also include the announcement of contest winners and educational videos.
The two contests taking place during this year’s Butterfly Flutterby celebration include an online art contest and an online costume contest. The deadline to enter both contests is October 5. Kids in kindergarten through fifth grade can enter the art contest and kids ages 0-12 and pets can enter the costume contest.
For those who want to get a more immersive experience, the celebration will have an exhibit titled “Spirit of the Monarch” in the Tower Gallery inside the Grapevine Visitors and Information Center. The exhibit will include monarch butterfly facts, a live display and interactive activities, according to a press release.
