Over the summer, the Mask Posse in Trophy Club has sewn and distributed around 6,000 masks across the world. Two of those masks have gone to the firefighter and police officer statues in front of Southlake DPS headquarters, both of which went the past several months without wearing a mask.
The group of six women has been continuously sewing masks out of Fellowship United Methodist Church since the pandemic started in March. Although the Mask Posse has provided masks to Texas Oncology, Metroport Meals on Wheels, Southlake DPS and other organizations, member Dr. Katie Simpson thought the group could spare a few more just to send a friendly reminder to mask up to passersby of the Southlake DPS headquarters.
“This was just a fun way to remind folks about the importance of wearing masks,” Dr. Simpson says. “I drive by the statues frequently when mailing masks from the post office and kept thinking they should have masks as a fun PSA. Southlake DPS was all for it."
Both statues can now be seen wearing their red, white and blue masks at 600 State St. To request a mask from the Mask Posse, visit FUMCTC.com.
