Southlake officially has a new fire chief. Shannon Langford was confirmed by the City Council on April 15 and will begin his role on May 5. He brings more than 32 years of experience in fire and emergency medical services to Southlake.
Known for his leadership and operational excellence, Langford has built high-performing teams, created advanced medical and fire training programs and championed mental health initiatives for first responders. He holds a Master of Science in Management from Texas A&M University-Commerce and completed the Fire Service Chief Executive Officer program at Texas A&M’s Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX), positioning him well to lead Southlake’s fire services.
"Chief Langford brings a wealth of knowledge and hands-on experience that will serve our community well," said city manager Alison Ortowski. "His depth of expertise in fire service operations, training, and team development—combined with his servant leadership approach—positions him to lead with both competence and heart. We’re confident he will build on our department’s strong foundation and continue to elevate the level of service we provide to Southlake residents.”
