Twenty Carroll Senior High students who were part of the Southlake Kids Interested in Leadership (SKIL) program were honored at the fourth annual SKIL Awards luncheon on May 9.
Among them was Zeena Mahmud, who was also awarded a scholarship from the Southlake Chamber of Commerce, for having “demonstrated a high level of engagement in the program and willingness to lead in a variety of capacities,” according to My Southlake News.
SKIL began in 2015 and was founded by Mayor Laura Hill. This year’s SKIL students were able to participate in an Annual Day of Internship and visit the Texas Capitol.
“This program has become more comprehensive and illustrates all the different aspects that impact a community,” says City Staff Liaison, Daniel Cortez in My Southlake News. “Not only do the students learn about what’s going on locally, but they get the chance to see how it fits into the larger picture with our state leadership.”
Each year, 20 juniors from Carroll Senior High are chosen for this program and 80 students total have participated, according to My Southlake News.
This year’s SKIL students were Emma Cave, Christopher Ciccone, Trevor Easton, Eric Eaton, Chase Gardiner, Olivia Hein, Nadia Khalil, Lauren Kim, Emily Kennedy, Sachi Kishinchandani, Zeena Mahmud, Kelli Nusspickel, Sophia Polisetty, Ryan Sahihi, Rohun Shroff, Simrun Shroff, Farees Syed, Pablo Valderrama Pena, Matthew Vinson and Michelle Wu.
