The Southlake mayor and City Council finalized ballot language for an upcoming bond election during their winter retreat last week. Mayor Laura Hill released a newsletter stating she and the other councilmembers discussed several topics while chilling by the Champion’s Club poolside, including citizen survey results and human trafficking prevention initiatives. One of those items was finalizing ballot language for May’s bond election.
“We have prioritized buying open space for passive parks and to help deal with citywide drainage issues,” Mayor Hill says in her newsletter. “We will be asking... the voters if this is your priority.”
The newsletter stated the bond will be for $50 million and would be used as a credit line to buy land whenever opportunities arise. She says the bond election will not affect the lowered $.447 tax rate and 20% homestead exemption, and staff has been directed to develop guidelines for what types of land purchases to consider.
In addition to the bond election, voters will decide who will fill the councilmember seats for places 1 and 6, as well as the Carroll ISD Board of Trustee places 1, 2 and 3. Early voting begins April 20, with the general election scheduled for May 2.
