The city of Southlake is asking citizens to take part in the 2020 census before the Sept. 30 deadline. The city's current response rate for the 2020 census is 80.7%, slightly lower than the 81.8% response rate from the 2010 census, according to MySouthlakeNews.
“Every response counts,” says Mayor Laura Hill to MySouthlakeNews. “Even if you’ve responded, ask your friends and neighbors if they’ve submitted their information. I’ll bet you’d be surprised at the number of people who haven’t had a chance to participate. If you haven’t yet, just go online, it only takes about five minutes.”
The census is important as the data collected in the census determines how much federal funding entities such as schools, fire departments and hospitals receive, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
Part of Southlake’s outreach for the 2020 Census include social media and on-on-one engagement by the Community Engagement Committee.
“Southlake has changed a great deal since 2010,” says Sherry Berman, Community Engagement Committee Chairman to MySouthlakeNews. “A complete count will help make sure our city neighborhoods and businesses get the support they need for the next ten years. The CEC team is excited to be involved.”
Other cities around Southlake have similar response rates. Colleyville’s response rate is currently at 86%, Grapevine’s response rate is currently at 72.7% and Keller’s response rate is currently at 83.4%, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
The deadline to complete the census is September 30. For those who have not yet responded to the 2020 Census, it can be done online here.
