The Southlake Historical Society has earned yet another accolade for telling Bob and Almeady Chisum Jones’ story.
In 2020, the Southlake Historical Society organized an exhibit titled “Bob and Almeady Chisum Jones: A True Story of Resilience, Courage and Success” that told Bob Jones’ story and how he went from being formerly enslaved to a successful rancher. The organization has received several honors for its work on the exhibit from both the Tarrant County Historical Commission and the American Association For State And Local History.
In early February, the Southlake Historical Society added yet another award to its collection, earning the Award of Excellence In Preserving History from the Texas Historical Commission.
“The Southlake Historical Society is an inspiration to other organizations and communities wrestling with similar histories,” says Mark Wolfe, Texas Historical Commission executive director, via media release. “Their commitment and diligence in building this detailed exhibit is worthy of recognition as preservationists and historians work to present Texas’ diverse history.”
You can view the Southlake Historical Society’s exhibit now at the Bob Jones Nature Center’s visitors center or online at SouthlakeHistory.org, according to the media release.
