For Southlake Carroll footballbrplayers, receiving the Stalcup “Heart of a Dragon” award is one of the highest honors.brThis year, Jackson Davis was honored as the recipient at a Southlake Kiwanisbrbreakfast meeting held in his honor. Each year, the Kiwanis Club awards a $1,500brscholarship to a Carroll football player who embodies the character of past Dragonbrcoach Charlie Stalcup.
Stalcupbrwas a beloved coach at Southlake Carroll High School for many years. Inbraddition to the “Heart of a Dragon” award, which was first given in 2004,brStalcup's legacy continues as “Charlie,” the name of the Dragon mascot. ThebrDragons' indoor practice facility also bears Stalcup's name. Stalcup wasbrinducted into the Dragon Athletics Hall of Fame in 2014.
SouthlakebrCarroll head football coach Hal Wasson selects a player based on leadership,brdetermination and attitude on and off of the field. In presenting the award,brCoach Wasson shared examples of Davis inspiring teammates while playingbrfootball and managing his diabetes.
