Bella Hanson and John P. Denk Jr. have officially left their mark on Southlake. The work of two of the "We Are Southlake" contest winners will now be showcased on Southlake Public Library's cards. City of Southlake's librarian Cynthia Pfledderer says new library cards are ordered about every two years, and she was looking for a fresh look.
"We love to have unique cards which represent the community. So, when we discovered the winners of the Mayor's Alliance for Unity & Culture's art contest, we decided to pick two of the designs for the new cards," Cynthia says. "I selected the designs based on their broad appeal to library customers of all ages."
The former card design showcased a photo of the Southlake sculpture, "Taking Flight" by Seth Vandable, and a cartoon dragon. Cynthia also says she was excited to give more space to two Southlake artists.
"We love to highlight the talent in our community, whether it's unique hobbies, art, local speakers, musicians or writers," Cynthia says. "It showcases our community's applied creativity."
According to MySouthlakeNews.com, Bella is a Carroll Senior High School senior, and John is a local art school graduate and commercial and graphic artist. The two entered the contest, which encouraged artists to "visually represent what they love about Southlake." Mayor Laura Hill and the Mayor's Alliance for Unity & Culture selected Bella and John as "We Are Southlake" poster contest winners last September. To view their individual cards, visit here.
