It was brisk outside thisbrmorning, but the chilly air didn't bother the kids at Carroll Elementary Schoolbr(CES). They were too pumped up about duct taping Principal Stacy Wagnon to thebrwall. It was all for a good cause, of course. It was the exciting kickoff tobrthe PTO's spring fundraising event, Totally Back to the 80s.
Students, teachers andbrparents could buy a strip of duct tape for $5 a piece. Altogether, more thanbr500 strips of tape were purchased, bringing in more than $2,500 for PTO fundsbrthat will be used to purchase new classroom technology, provide specialbrprograms, annual teacher grants, staff development programs and classroombrsupplies.
“Ms. Wagnon is the duct tapebrthat holds this school community together,” PTO President Susan Berlew said inbra press release. “She is always supportive of our PTO efforts and appreciativebrof the money raised to help our children learn and grow.”
It's certainly not every daybrkids get to duct tape their principal to the wall, and there werebrunderstandably some mixed emotions at CES' first duct-taping event. “Most ofbrthe children were excited and had a blast,” says Wagnon. “We had a few who werebrapprehensive and could not believe I was taped. I had several apologies as theybrwere sticking on tape.”
As for being stuck to thebrwall, Wagnon says it was actually easier than she anticipated. “The weight ofbrthe tape and the inability to move—I was a little surprised with that,” shebradds.
CES PTO's Spring Fundraiserbrwill take place March 5 at the Trophy Club Country Club. The evening, which isbrsure to be “super-awesome,” will include a live and silent auction, dinner andbrdancing along with prizes and surprises. All funds raised will support CES. Click here to purchase tickets.
