The Celiac Disease Turkey Trot returned to Southlake for its second year, bringing hundreds of runners, walkers, volunteers, and families together for a weekend of awareness and generosity. The event raised more than $9,000, earning a 5th-place ranking nationwide within the Celiac Disease Foundation, and shined a spotlight on celiac disease, a lifelong autoimmune disorder affecting millions.
The project was started by Kylie Connor, a Carroll Senior High School senior who was diagnosed with celiac disease at age 10. What began as a personal challenge has grown into a mission of education and advocacy. Over four years, she has raised more than $13,000 and emerged as a leading youth voice for gluten-free safety in North Texas. The Turkey Trot is her signature project, blending athleticism, celebration and community action.
“This event would not have been possible without an inclusive community,” says Kylie. “Not only was I able to share my awareness message in another manner, but I was able to bring people together to learn about this lifelong disease and join the fight for a cure.”
Local businesses helped bring the event to life, from Keller Trophy and Custom Ink’s participant shirts to Bear Creek Running Company’s race bibs. Gluten-free vendors including Pinch of Salt Pastries, Playa Bowls, and Pressed Juicery showcased the flavor and variety of allergen-safe foods.
Student groups, including Carroll Cross Country, Key Club, Make a Difference Club, Carroll Medical Academy and Carroll Senior Class Council, added energy and volunteer power, helping turn the Turkey Trot into a true community triumph.
