January has flown by, yet again, but it's going out with a bang. From touring Broadway hits to cultural escapes, this week is full of fun events for everyone to participate in. Here are five that you won’t want to miss.
JANUARY 28 - FEBRUARY 9
MUSIC HALL AT FAIR PARK | In a paradoxical twist to the original playwright, this hilarious new musical takes a fresh look at a classic love story. "& Juliet” poses the question of what life might have looked like for Juliet had she not ended it all over Romeo. Created by the Emmy-winning writer from “Schitt’s Creek” and accompanied by contemporary hits like “Since U Been Gone‚” “Baby One More Time” and “Can’t Stop the Feeling,” the genius behind the stage is an indicator of a marvel for the crowd to see. The only tragedy would be missing it.
JANUARY 23-26
MORTON H. MEYERSON SYMPHONY CENTER | This magnificent display of musical wonders and effects combine to tell a story that follows Hector Berlioz and his Shakespearian actress love interest. His passion-propelled Symphonie Fantastique journeys through the hero’s drug-induced visions, a pounding march to the scaffold and a demonic Witches’ Sabbath for a hair-raising theme. Conductor Giedrė Šlekytė makes her DSO premiere mastering Strauss’s tuneful Oboe Concerto with Principal Oboe Erin Hannigan in the spotlight.
JANUARY 24-26
MUSIC HALL AT FAIR PARK | Witness the revival of classical Chinese dance and music rooted in traditional studies of grace, wisdom and virtues inherited from five millennia of Chinese civilization. This authentic cultural performance is teeming with stories and legends, vibrant costumes, 3D-projected backdrops, original music and fun surprises that will delight your senses. Unveiling an entirely new lineup of dances, songs and musical scores, this new act draws inspiration from the “Middle Kingdom” of China, populated by dragons, sages and immortals living in divine harmony.
45TH ANNUAL DALLAS NATIONAL TRADE-O-REE
JANUARY 26-27
GRAPEVINE CONVENTION CENTER | If you’re a retired Boy or Girl Scout or have children and grandchildren who are Scouts, you’ll certainly appreciate the annual Trade-O-Ree (TOR). With some decades of collected memorabilia and merchandise, the TOR is a one-stop shop for all things in Scouts culture. More than 14,000 square feet of space awaits vendors and merchants bringing their aged treasures to pass off onto new homes, from patches and uniforms to pins and gear.
FORT WORTH STOCK SHOW AND RODEO
JANUARY 17 - FEBRUARY 8
FORT WORTH STOCKYARDS | Go around to Fort Worth’s historic district for the annual Stock Show and Rodeo that’s sure to throw your expectations out of the arena. With eye-catching performances, seat-gripping bull rides, live music, a livestock show, a petting zoo and more, this event is perfect for friends and families of all ages. With an array of local watering holes offering Texas-sized bites, let’s just be grateful there isn’t an eating contest in one of the timed events!
