The Humane Society of North Texas (HSNT) is preparing to welcome more than 1,000 adoptable pets to its 11th annual MEGA Adoption Event and is asking the community to help keep the animals comfortable while they wait for forever homes.
The event is set for Saturday, Aug. 15, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, Aug. 16, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Amon G. Carter Jr. Exhibits Hall in Fort Worth. HSNT will join more than 35 North Texas animal shelters to bring dogs, cats and other small furry pets together under one roof for adoption.
HSNT is seeking donations of blankets and enrichment items, such as chews and treats, which help provide comfort and reduce stress. Items can be purchased through the organization's Amazon Wish List, or community members can make a monetary donation to help purchase supplies. Donations received by Saturday, Aug. 8, will support the MEGA Adoption Event.
Last year's event helped 760 pets find homes, and HSNT hopes to surpass that number this year. Admission is free, and participating shelters will offer adoption fees of $25 or less, including spay or neuter services, microchipping and age-appropriate vaccinations. Adopted pets can go home with their new families the same day.
Pets cannot be reserved in advance, so prospective adopters are encouraged to arrive early. An Early Bird Fast Pass is available for $50, providing entry from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, before the event opens to the public. The pass is limited to the first 150 people who register and pay in advance and does not include the adoption fee.
