From manicured parks and landscaped medians to litter-free roadways, Southlake's polished appearance is something residents have long taken pride in maintaining. While city crews play an important role, volunteers and local businesses are helping preserve that standard through the City of Southlake's Keep Southlake Beautiful Adopt-A-Street Program.
Among those giving back is ReCoat Revolution of North DFW, a hard-surface floor restoration company, which recently completed its first year caring for Peytonville Avenue between State Highway 1709 and Elks Lane.
The adopted stretch carries special meaning for owners Joe and Jennifer Worrel. Located just minutes from both their Southlake home and business, the roadway borders Carroll Senior High School's campus, including the school's outdoor practice fields and track where their two sons have spent countless hours as Carroll ISD student-athletes.
Over the past year, the quarterly cleanup days became more than a volunteer commitment. Friends, neighbors, and Carroll classmates joined the Worrel family, turning each event into a community gathering centered around keeping one of Southlake's busiest corridors looking its best.
"It's been a great way to involve our boys in our family business," Joe Worrel said in a statement. "They're starting to internalize the idea that, as local business owners, you can't expect the community to care about your business until you show the community that your business cares about it. We don't just operate in Southlake - we are invested in it."
The Keep Southlake Beautiful Adopt-A-Street Program allows businesses, civic groups, schools, and families to adopt sections of roadway, committing to several cleanups each year. In return, participants help reduce litter while fostering a greater sense of community ownership.
Jennifer Worrel said in a statement that the opportunity has made it easy for the family to give back in a meaningful way.
"We're grateful to the City of Southlake for creating opportunities like Adopt-A-Street," she said. "Programs like this make it easy for families and businesses to give back in a tangible way, and they help ensure Southlake remains the beautiful community we are all so proud of."
