As the federal government shutdown continues, Texans who rely on SNAP food benefits may not receive their assistance in November, meaning families across North Texas could face an immediate and unexpected crisis.
GRACE Grapevine is preparing for a surge in families seeking help. But to meet that need, they urgently need support.
For many, this disruption will hit hard. With rising costs, parents already stretching paychecks may have to choose between groceries and rent. Seniors who depend on monthly SNAP allotments could find themselves without food for the first time in years. And local children, some of whom receive most of their nutrition through school and assistance programs, may face hunger as the holiday season begins.
GRACE is ready to step up, but the organization’s shelves and resources will be tested in the coming weeks.
“This will be an enormous need for our community,” GRACE leadership shared in a recent statement. “We are preparing, but we need the community’s help to respond.”
