This month the Library Foundation of Southlake (LFOS) and the city’s public library are teaming up to encourage school-aged children to read even more during the Winter break. After the popularity of its past reading contests like Funopoly, the organizations are back again with a new contest called Book Blizzard Bingo.
“We couldn’t be more excited to help encourage reading during the short winter days. I have four grandsons who are active Southlake Public Library users and it’s so fun to see programs like this that get them excited about reading,” said Lori Burr, President of LFOS.
By registering for the contest anytime from December 2 through January 6, 2025 at the library, students in kindergarten through eighth grade can get their official bingo board. Once in hand, they are eligible to compete in various reading challenges that can earn prizes from such local shops as The Toy Maven, Talking Animals bookstore and many more.
“The beauty of our Book Blizzard Bingo game is that it gives kids a lot of choices about the types of books they can read,” Burr added. “We want to encourage readers to stretch themselves to explore new genres and types of books. That said, more than anything, we just want kids to love to read as much as we do.”
