Altrusa DFW’s 2020 Red Bag Food Drive brought in 10 tons of food to stock the shelves of four local food pantries, according to a press release. From December 13-14, more than 100 volunteers distributed Red Bags to homes throughout Southlake, Keller, Colleyville, Keller and Trophy Club.
With the bag came a flyer asking locals to fill it with non-perishable food items. The following week, volunteers picked up the bags and delivered them to four area food banks: GRACE in Grapevine, Christs’ Haven for Children, Community Storehouse and Community Enrichment Center.
Due to the pandemic, Altrusa DFW reworked its usual Red Bag Food Drive, which also assembles more than 1,200 food baskets in partnership with Christmas is for Children. This year, the group made a cash contribution to the nonprofit.
Altrusa DFW says its volunteers and local community members’ generosity ensured that the group could serve those in need, especially in a time when hunger instability is at an all-time high.
“We look forward to supporting our community for years to come, through the Red Bag Food Drive and our many other community service projects,” the nonprofit says via press release.
