Five hundred football-obsessed campers had smiles on their faces when Dak Prescott, quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, strolled into the Ulete, LLC Sports Complex in Southlake on July 8.
The parents were happy, too: the camp, which ran for three hours and offered hands-on tips and instruction from Prescott and ProCamps coaches, was completely free -- a point of pride for Prescott, who has been holding local football camps such as this one around the Metroplex since he arrived in Dallas in 2014.
"When I was a kid, I never could have come to a camp like this," he said. "It's very important to me that everyone gets a chance."
Prescott only spent 10 minutes chatting with the assorted media that were in attendance; he was a busy man, traveling from one age group to another and making sure to interact with as many kids as possible. The campers rotated through "stations" during the morning sessions, taking turns doing drills with counselors like throwing, catching and running routes.
Prescott's Cowboys teammates Rivaldo Fairweather, Tyler Neville and Jalen Brooks were also in attendance.
The Ulete, LLC Sports Complex was the perfect venue for the camp, with its fully-turfed, indoor and outdoor football fields.
"This place is amazing," Prescott said. "We need one up north [near Frisco, where the Cowboys practice]."
The Cowboys signal-caller also answered non-camp related questions, including about the state of the team, the upcoming team training camp beginning July 22, George Pickens (the team's newest addition at wide receiver) and his health. Prescott played in only eight games in 2024 due to a strained hamstring.
“I’m healthy,” Prescott said. “I’ll be a full-go for camp. I’m healthy. I think soon here I’ll probably get the official sign-off from doctor, but I’m healthy.”
