Manchester, Tennessee USA - 06-15-2024: Post Malone performs at Bonnaroo music festival
The music industry can be cruel -- even to a certified superstar like Post Malone.
Grapevine's own, who has been nominated for a Grammy 18 times in his career yet never won, will receive only a certificate for his work on Beyonce's 2024 album 'Cowboy Carter,' which won Album of the Year at the 2025 awards show.
It was initially reported that Malone, who appears on the album in the song "Levii's Jeans," would in fact receive a Grammy along with Beyonce, but a recent rule change took the hardware out of his hands.
For the Album of the Year, Grammy's are now only given to "artist(s) including Featured Artist(s), Songwriter(s) of new material, Producer(s), Recording Engineer(s), Mixer(s) & Mastering Engineer(s) with greater than 20 percent playing time on the album," according to the updated statuettes from 2024. Since "Levii's Jeans" is one of 27 songs on the album, Malone's contribution percentage sits far below the required 20 percent.
So Malone, and other 'Cowboy Carter' contributing artists like Shaboozy, will receive a merely a certificate for their work on the album.
Individually, Malone -- who moved to Grapevine with his family at the age of 9 -- was nominated for seven Grammy's at this year's awards show.
We're sure the 'Cowboy Carter' certificate means a lot to Malone, but after a record 18 nominations in his career without a win -- the most of any artist in Grammy history -- it's another painful example of "so close, yet so far."
